Pleasant and Toenail Fungus are Not Synonymous
Toenail Fungus is not something you want to deal with on a common basis due to the level of irritation and infection that it can cause. And yes, it is not at all pleasant!

Toenail Fungus is not something you want to deal with on a common basis due to the level of irritation and infection that it can cause. And yes, it is not at all pleasant! You’ll find the fungus that causes trouble for your toes at public pools or locker rooms. Your toenails will lose color and will become brittle. If left untreated, the infected toenails will start to produce an odor that can be embarrassing at times.

For elder adults with debilitated immune systems, treatment is vital as the infection can travel to other parts of their body and cause complications that may spiral out of control. This fungus grows in warm and damp areas, which is common within your shoes. So, if you have broken toenails or tears in the surrounding region, infection can develop due to the ease of which the fungus can move below the toenail. Quick treatment is therefore required to alleviate unnecessary infections.

Treatment for this condition includes:

  • Use antifungal topical ointments to treat nail fungus because they have properties that can easily be absorbed by the skin around your toenail to fight off the problem causing fungus.

  • Laser treatment is very helpful for eliminating the source of the fungal infection. The laser will pierce the surface of your toenail to destroy the hard to reach infection underneath. This is because toenail fungal infections reside deep underneath the toenail bed.

  • Surgical methods maybe required to remove the toenail if the above methods do not curb the spreading of this fungus.
