Foot Rash can happen for many reasons. They can take up a small part of the foot, last for a short amount of time or can spread to the leg and become painful if not treated quickly. In fact, there are rashes on the foot that develop due to an allergic reaction.

One rash form, known as contact dermatitis, is where the skin is sensitive to certain elements. This rash can be caused by damage to the skin from chemicals like cleaning solutions or cosmetics. Signs of this type of rash are itchy, bumpy skin that is cracked or scaly and potentially painful if left untreated.

Another form of contact dermatitis may be caused by poison ivy or allergies that provoke an immune response. Other types of allergens may also include rubber or metallic materials in shoe leather. These rashes are generally not contagious and start as blisters or raised layers of skin that are reddish in color.

Treatment for this condition includes:

  • Washing the area of the foot where the rash is present.
  • Refraining from topical steroids use or other skin irritants.
  • Staying away from substances known to cause the allergic reaction.
  • Visiting a podiatrist to determine if there are any foods in your diet or medications you may be taking that are causing skin irritations in the feet. There may be a certain type of soap or a particular place you can avoid to prevent contact with any irritating contaminants.
