Foot Pain: What No One Tells You
If you have foot pain, it can be challenging to remain active or even complete simple tasks in your life. The constant pain can be frustrating and debilitating, and it can often seem as if there is no end in sight.

If you have foot pain, it can be challenging to remain active or even complete simple tasks in your life. The constant pain can be frustrating and debilitating, and it can often seem as if there is no end in sight. But foot pain is a fairly common problem, and there are many treatment methods available. Today Dr. Joel Segalman, Dr. Stephen Lazaroff, and Dr. Brittany Ciaramello at Performance Foot & Ankle Specialists, LLC are sharing some of the things no one tells you about foot pain.

Causes of Foot Pain

There are many different reasons why you may be feeling foot pain. Because our feet act as shock absorbers, they support and cushion us during activities like running, walking, and other forms of exercise.

The most common causes of foot pain include overuse, conditions that cause inflammation, and injury. Most of the problems patients experience fall within one of those categories.

Even though your foot seems to be just a small part of your body, it has a lot going on; it contains:

  • ·Joints;

  • Ligaments;

  • Bones;

  • Muscles;

  • Tendons;

  • Nerves;

  • Blood vessels;

  • Skin;

  • Soft tissue structures.

A disease or injury of any of these elements can result in foot pain.

Foot Pain Conditions

There are a number of conditions that affect the exterior of the foot. Plantar warts and athlete’s foot can lead to irritation and pain. Another exterior source is an ingrown toenail, which can be painful and become infected.

Abnormalities in the foot can cause pain, including hammertoes, bone spurs, and bunions, among others. Patients may also experience foot pain due to abnormalities from tendon and muscle laxity or tightness. All of these causes, including others, should be diagnosed and evaluated by a podiatrist.
