Foot Odor is caused by bacteria on the feet that are a mixture of sweat and dead skin. Moreover, the sweat glands on the feet constantly excrete sweat and not just in response to heat or exercise like other parts of the body do. The bacteria absorb the above described mixture and afterwards emit a substance with an odor. To prevent foot order from occurring, methods should be utilized such as using a pumice stone to eliminate dead skin cells, using soap to remove bacteria, washing and drying feet daily and using powder on feet to absorb moisture and close pores. Socks are also a big source of foot odor due to the environment in socks and the fact that they are worn daily. Therefore, socks should be changed throughout the day, they should be cotton rather than nylon and they should be treated with powders if you are unable to change them. Shoes however are not washed as socks are and should also be treated with powder, be placed in warm or dry places, stuffed with paper or any other material that can absorb moisture and treated with antimicrobial materials to destroy bacteria. You may also use oils that have antimicrobial elements such as eucalyptus, tea tree oil, thyme or cedar wood. An extreme way to eliminate bacteria from shoes if they continue to emit odor is to freeze them overnight to reduce bacteria.
