Blisters are small pockets of fluid that can occur on the feet due to their nature of formation. They develop after a sunburn and may eventually harden and vanish, but until that happens, it can be painful depending on its size and location on the foot. While you shouldn’t burst a blister, safely draining the blister may provide relief if done in a safe manner. Blisters can also hinder everyday tasks and make it difficult to walk, exercise or just stand for an extended amount of time. Blisters on feet can form after pressures occur on the feet from bad fitting shoes.

They are filled with fluid and poorly fitted shoes can aggravate them severely because shoes that fit too snug will rub against the skin of your foot and cause friction, resulting in a build-up of fluid accumulation underneath the skin. Moisture or sweat can be the contributing factor that may activate these skin bubbles. Miniature blisters can also form when perspiration blocks the pores of your feet. Although they are smaller, they can still be painful.

For treatment, it’s best to wear socks that do not hold moisture so your feet can stay dry during strenuous activities. In particular, those with heavier cushioning help to lessen the amount of friction on the foot’s skin. It’s also helpful to wear thin socks with ventilation so that the heat can disperse. Dehydration can also lead to blisters as hydrated skin can handle greater amounts of friction before it begins to break down. Athletes should choose their footwear and socks carefully.
